Announcing a new independent publishing house in Antigonish

HARP Publishing: The People’s Press, will publish books, zines, CDs, DVDs, and art work on the broad theme of arts and health, available in print and on-line. Our acronym, HARP, stands for Healing Arts, Reconciling People, and represents both art and cooperation amongst all communities for our greater personal and collective health. Our logo includes a braid of sweetgrass, used by First Nations cultures for ritual and healing; the spiral, precursor of writing; and the plinth and pillar, evoking classical western art and architecture.

Our first book, “The People’s Photo Album: A Pictorial Genealogy of the Antigonish Movement, is a collection of 800+  photos, with accompanying text, celebrating the ninetieth anniversary of the St Francis Xavier University Extension Department and the Antigonish Movement. This will be followed by

  • “Beauty will Save the World: Art and Health Equity in the Antigonish Movement—a comparison between historical and contemporary arts cooperatives
  • “Blood Work”—a novel based on the healing journey of a teenager with cancer
  • Women Artists, Teachers, and Caregivers: A Trans-Canada Whistlestop”—a travelogue exploring synergisms between women’s art-making, teaching, and caregiving.

Please visit our website and blog—www.harppublishing.ca—which will include publications you can read on-line or download. You can reach us by email at harppublishing@gmail.com.
